$2,000 goal

Due to this crazy pandemic world we are living in,  Safe Hands Rescue is hosting their Fur Ball Gala virtually for the second year in a row, and I'm raising funds on their behalf! Our goal is to raise $100,000 for the renovation of the barn at The Safe House in Kentucky into an animal holding ward with safe, clean kennel runs where dogs and cats can get the medical attention and food they desperately need before making the long trip up north.

Dogs like Max are the reason why I'm fundraising this year, and why I know this project will save lives.

Max came to us nervous and weak; a literal breathing skeleton.  At just over a year old, he was only thirteen pounds when he should have weighed thirty.  To be honest, I wasn't certain he would be able to make the trip based on the shelter photo of this poor boy.

Wandering a neighborhood alone for weeks, he was eventually trapped and taken to the shelter.   As I pulled him from the van, I felt every bone and every organ.  There was simply no muscle at all.  I wondered how he had survived in this state; and then his tail told me how.  As I held him close, his tail wagged with renewed excitement.  I set him down expecting him to fall over.  He wiggled a happy dance and then jumped in for a hug as I crouched down - amazed at his incredible spirit.  He gave me a nuzzle and a fast kiss to let me know he was ready to fight this long battle.  He wanted the better life that I promised as I whispered into his ear "your in Safe Hands now my friend".

It took months to restore his body and his sense of security, but his personality blossomed right away.  His love of life, friends and squirrels grew more every day, until finally he was whole again.  Max was adopted into a wonderful home where he gets all love and attention a guy could ask for.  There is nothing more rewarding.

Max's smile is one in a million, but sadly he is just one of thousands of dogs like him that are still trapped in shelters.  Many of them lose their battle waiting for the transport that can get them to safety. That is why the Safe House project is so very important.  Safe Hands Rescue gives homeless pets a second chance to have a great life. If you have a companion animal, you know that we don’t just rescue them…they rescue us too. They bring happiness, make us laugh and give us comfort. We give them the best days of their lives and in return they give us the best days of ours.

That’s why I’m participating in the Safe Hands Virtual Furball, and why I’m inviting you to join me in donating to the cause. There are so many more companion animals like Max, who want to be saved. Throughout these challenging times, our companion animals have been there with us and for us. They see us through hard times. It is exactly times like these that tend to bring out the best in people. Your gift today will help us save lives, share joy and create love.

Be the super hero you know you are!  Please consider making a donation today to help us rescue more dogs like Max - Thank You!
