The Problem We’re Tackling

Across Minnesota and Freetown, too many individuals and families face the harsh realities of:

  • Food insecurity — Families go hungry every day due to lack of access to affordable, nutritious food.
  • Homelessness — People are living without stable shelter, exposed to danger, illness, and isolation.
  • Gender-based violence — Survivors often have nowhere safe to turn, and limited access to support services.

These issues are interconnected and deeply rooted in systemic inequality. In both urban and rural communities, the lack of resources, safe spaces, and advocacy leaves vulnerable populations without the support they need to survive—let alone thrive.

At Community Action Africa, we believe that everyone deserves dignity, safety, and opportunity. That’s why we’re building Food Hubs, creating safe housing, and empowering local leaders to drive change from within their communities.

Our Impact

  • Over 9,500 meals served across both cities

  • Food Security Hubs launched to deliver culturally relevant meals and groceries

  • Care bags distributed to unhoused individuals with ready-to-eat food

  • Empowerment workshops hosted for survivors of gender-based violence

  • Volunteers mobilized to expand outreach and deepen community trust

How Your Donation Helps

At Community Action Africa, 100% of your contribution goes directly toward social justice programs in Minneapolis and Freetown. Every dollar fuels community-driven solutions that nourish dignity and build resilience.  Real-Life Impact: Supporting Our Unhoused Neighbors in Minneapolis

In Minneapolis, Community Action Africa is making a difference for individuals experiencing homelessness through our Care Bag Initiative. These thoughtfully assembled bags provide essential items that offer comfort, dignity, and hope.

Each care bag includes:

  • 🧦 Socks
  • 🛁 Towels and bath care items (soap, shampoo, wipes)
  • 🪥 Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • 🍫 Non-perishable snack bars
  • 🧴 Lotion and hygiene essentials

These bags are more than supplies—they’re a message that someone cares.

“I didn’t expect anyone to stop and ask how I was doing,” shared one recipient. “The care bag made me feel seen.”

With your support, we can expand this program and reach even more people living on the margins. Every donation helps us deliver warmth, dignity, and connection.

Real-Life Impact: “Pa Sorie's Story”

“I am very happy for this program; it came to me at a time when I was very much in need. I don’t have anyone to ask for help, so I truly appreciate the opportunity to be one of the beneficiaries.” — Pa Sorie, Freetown, single parent

Pa Sorie, a retired teacher in Freetown, has faced increasing hardship due to rising food prices and limited support. Living alone and without family to turn to, he struggled to put food on the table.

Through Community Action Africa’s Food Insecurity Relief Program, Pa Sorie received a bag of rice and essential supplies—just when he needed them most.

His story is a powerful reminder of why your support matters. With your help, we can continue to reach people like Pa Sorie—offering not just food, but hope, dignity, and community.
