Community Action Africa (CAA) is born out of House of Love Foundation, as a private family-based charity which was established in 2014 to serve 75-year-olds and the homeless community in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and Minneapolis, Minnesota.  CAA was founded in January 2022 and obtained a 501(c)3 status in November 2022.

At Community Action Africa, we are committed to addressing food insecurity, homelessness, and gender-based violence through comprehensive programs that provide direct assistance, advocacy, and long-term solutions.  In April 2014, we started off by providing monthly food supplies including bags of rice, cooking oil, sugar cubes, drinking cocoa, milk, and clean water, for seniors in Freetown, Sierra Leone. In Minneapolis, homelessness was a significant issue with 3,000+ individuals experiencing homelessness across Hennepin County in 2014.  As the homelessness crisis was steadily deteriorating, we packed and distributed care bags with comb, washcloth, toothbrush, toothpaste, pair of socks, wipes, and $5 for coffee in each bag for our homeless community in Minneapolis.

Today, CAA provides a variety of resources and services to empower individuals and families.   We are committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those served.  We don’t just provide food and essentials but we raise awareness and counter the negative narratives about the root causes of hunger and affordability. We empower the community by tackling food insecurity, homelessness, and gender-based violence through sustainable solutions, advocacy, and direct support.  We believe in empowerment, not dependency.

MISSION

Community Action Africa (CAA) is dedicated to promoting social justice and community empowerment to serve diverse communities.

VISION

We envision a world where every individual has access to nourishing food, safe shelter, and protection from violence—where communities thrive through compassion, equity, and lasting change.

OUR IMPACT

We’ve fed over 9,160 people since our founding—transforming temporary relief into permanent, trauma-informed infrastructure.

We connect individuals and families to emergency shelter and transitional housing in Freetown.  In Minneapolis, we provide care bags to unhoused members of our community.

We amplify survivor voices and foster collective action to end GBV through storytelling and education.
