How you can help AKA continue to make a Difference

This year AKASPORT will be dedicating all funds raised during Give to the Max to support the childcare needs of essential workers.

Distance learning is not easy for teachers, parents or kids. It is especially difficult for the kids who do not have mom, dad or another adult at home to guide and support them. AKASPORT would like to be able to provide a fun, safe and active environment for these kids while ensuring they stay on track academically.

 While we would love to offer our programs at no cost, we operate as a nonprofit and simply do not have the funds for staff, equipment and supplies to do so. Through donations such as Give to the Max we will be able to reduce fees on our AKA School Time program allowing  these essential workers a place to send their kids during the day while they continue their invaluable work in the community.

While we feel that practically every job can be considered essential (and is essential for every family), we will be prioritizing teachers and health care workers.

Finally, you can support AKASPORT by joining our programs! 

• Our current AKA School Time program is Monday - Friday 7am-6pm with half day options available. This program helps keep kids on task academically while keeping them active while you work. 
• The AKA All Sports Summer Camp is open for registration! We are taking registration for full summer programs (10, 11 or 12 weeks) with individual week registration opening January 7!

AKASPORT is Facing Unique Challenges

We are so excited to be able to operate this summer as an essential childcare business. Our focus during this pandemic is to find a way to support families who need care for their children and to be the fun and excitement so many kids crave during this scary and uncertain time.

Like many organizations, AKASPORT is seeing an increased demand for safe essential childcare services however at this same time, our organization has been forced to cancel fundraisers and other revenue generating activities such as our after school and school release day programs. 

We want to serve families, but limiting contact at an active sports camp requires additional time and resources, which equates to additional expenses . To keep kids safe and healthy we will be implementing several different procedures and protocols to allow for a safer and cleaner camp experience for participants and staff. Some examples include: Creating smaller groups that keep with in a designated space with designated equipment, and implementing additional sanitizing and disinfecting measures. Smaller groups means additional staff and additional space, as well as purchasing more equipment and supplies. All of which require additional funding.

To keep our kids and staff healthy we are closely following the guidelines provided by the CDC, Department of Health, Department of Human Services and all guidelines set forth by the State of Minnesota. Acting responsibly also requires additional supplies and staff to ensure proper sanitation of our spaces and equipment as well as to ensure protocols are followed on a daily basis.

AKASPORT is experiencing a gap in funds due to cancelled programs this Spring during COVID-19 and an increase in expenses needed to implement important camp procedures in order to keep kids safe and active at our upcoming summer camps.

For over 15 years, AKASPORT has been on a mission to keep kids active through sport. Now, we are asking for your help to keep us active!

Kids in our communities NEED sports and physical activity to keep them physically, mentally, socially and emotionally healthy.  AKASPORT is the right organization to provide these crucial components of daily life. We bring instruction, variety and plenty of free play to keep sports and physical activity fun!

It is important to us to provide our All Sports Summer Camps to these kids in a way that is safe and healthy. To do this, we are asking for your help by making a donation to AKASPORT. Your donation will help us fill this gap between lost revenue and increased expenses to ensure our programs will be available to all kids as soon as they are able to come back!
