Let’s Smile, Inc. wants to ensure that all children have access to the power of preventive dental care services. We want children to be free of cavities that cause pain, the embarrassment of discolored teeth, and dangerous infections such as gingivitis that gets into their bloodstream. These risks affect their immune system, their self-esteem, their ability to chew food properly, and concentrate in school.
The number of local dental providers accepting Medicaid dental insurance or no dental insurance is few and far between, and those accepting have wait lists between 4 and 6 months for patient appointments. Existing barriers for financially struggling families such as no transportation, not being able to take time off of work, not wanting to take their children out of school for the day, inability to pay for dental care, and in some cases, parental neglect, needs to be solved to create equity of health within our community and surrounding areas.
Our unique, portable dental clinic enables Let’s Smile, Inc. to eliminate access barriers so parents don't have to arrange transportation, take time off work, have their children miss a majority of a valuable school day, and rearrange their schedules to take children to appointments. We set up school-based dental clinics to deliver dental services to the children right where they are at no cost to the families. Children are also more comfortable in the familiar settings of their schools.
Here's how you can help our community and our neighboring communities right now and in the years to come!
Let's Smile is looking to purchase a 2020 Ram ProMaster City®. We will need to build shelving units and ramps. Funding will also help with travel expenses and maintenance.
This "Mollar Roller" will transport all the equipment and supplies needed to set up dental clinics in our school-based programs throughout SE Minnesota. We travel to twenty-six school-based dental clinics are located in Owatonna, Blooming Prairie, Ellendale, New Richland, Waseca, Faribault, Caledonia, LaCrescent, LeRoy, Preston, St. Charles, Winona, and the Steel County Migrant Camp twice a year. This includes Head Start sites, elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, alternative learning centers, and charter schools.
Your generosity will make a meaningful difference, not only because it will help address the dental care needs of at-risk kids, but also because it delivers a system of care that leads to a lifetime of healthy smiles for kids in need.
Thank you for your time and consideration in helping us to help the community!
