It has been an honor to server on the volunteer Board of Directors at Avenues for Youth over the past 4 years. It has been a humbling experience to learn about homelessness, its causes and who it impacts. Youth experiencing homelessness are disproportionately youth of color and/or identify as LGBTQI+ and experience homelessness at no fault of their own.
Without stable housing it is difficult, if not impossible, to successfully complete your education or achieve higher education, get or maintain a job or meet nutrition and healthcare requirements. The speed at which homelessness can be addressed has a direct result in a youths overall success.
Avenues provides stable housing and assists youth with chemical dependency and mental health needs, education and career assistance and ultimately an exit to stable housing. Our community is stronger when our youth are stronger.
