This past year, Avenues for Youth partnered with hundreds of youth ages 16-24 who were experiencing homelessness or housing instability during a pandemic and civil unrest. At Avenues, youth have a 24/7 home, and access to education, career, and health and wellness support.
“A lot of my hopes and dreams don’t feel impossible anymore. That’s a really new feeling – and I just feel alive. I can accomplish everything now." - Shantasia, a former Avenues participant
Homelessness does not define a person. It is just one part of a journey that Avenues for Youth is here to help youth ages 16-24 navigate. Avenues provides housing, shelter, and other needed supports to hundreds of youth and families per year.
The pandemic has made youth and families experiencing housing instability particularly vulnerable. As the staggering economy downturn impacts our communities, Avenues programs remain open to youth and families who need a warm bed and a roof over their head. As schools switch to virtual learning, our computer labs will have virtual learners. As young people cope with stress and past trauma, our mental health and wellness team will meet them where they are.
The COVID-19 world has taken a toll on us all, especially youth experiencing homelessness. A gift to Avenues can provide critical health and wellness support, like:
$10 could provide a box of facemasks
$50 could provide transportation to health appointments for 8-10 youth
$100 could provide therapeutic art supplies for three youth
$250 could provide basic medicine, like cold and flu supplies, for five youth
$1,000 could help us provide onsite, no-barrier mental health, nursing, and doctor care to youth
Thank you, community, for supporting Avenues during the Coronavirus pandemic.
