Thanks to many generous donors, we have raised over $6,000 through this campaign to support our no-charge outreach programs and scholarships for youth. Now more than ever, we especially appreciate your contributions. Your support will ensure we can continue to deliver our mission to develop and unleash the potential of youth both on and off the court.

It is well known that sports bring people together, particularly on a macro societal level. From the Super Bowl to the World Cup and the Olympics, these events draw a captive audience from across the world. In those moments, everything is pushed to the side and people around the world come together. We can all think of amazing sports moments that brought communities together in times of need.

For me, one moment that comes to mind occurred in 2006 when the New Orleans Saints football team played its first game back in their home stadium following Hurricane Katrina. The game aired in primetime with millions watching as the Saints played a fantastic game filled with many highlights. The atmosphere was electric, and many athletes described it as the loudest game they had ever played in. Following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans needed something to get behind—something that would give them hope. The win that night brought the city together like nothing else could.

As a coach for InnerCity Tennis, I strive to create as many of these kinds of moments for the youth we serve. I love tennis and I love sharing it with underserved youth who would not otherwise have the chance to play. I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to see what tennis can do for students in Minneapolis. Tennis is so much more than a game for them, even if they don’t know it yet. Read full story here.
