One week post-surgery!

Update posted 25 days ago

One week post-surgery, and Penn is healing well so far! His puppy energy is making him a little restless, but he must stay on leash-rest for several weeks while his paw heals. Patience, pupster!

Mission

Greyhound Pets of America- Minnesota is the Minnesota Chapter of a national non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to finding loving, responsible homes for retired racers and also younger greyhounds who haven't made the grade to become professional racers. We also take great pride in educating and informing the public that retired racers make excellent, loving pets.

Programs

Greyhound Pets of America- Minnesota has no kennels. All dogs coming into GPA-MN go immediately into private foster homes. Our foster homes open their hearts and homes so that we can know much more about the dogs' personalities than if they were kept in a kennel situation. Dogs also have a head start in the adjustment to home living. Dogs have been cat tested and in many cases, live in foster homes with cats. We also have a membership e-mail forum, newsletter, and various social events for recent and potential adopters to build community and gain important information about Greyhounds.

The vast majority of our operating expenses are for veterinary care for the dogs in our adoption program. From routine spay/neuter, dental cleanings, and vaccinations, to extraordinary care for dogs who arrive with exceptional medical needs, such as Penn, this young pup who suffered a badly broken paw at the farm he was raised on (see the xray!) which required a $6000 orthopedic surgical repair. And Indy, a young greyhound who was bilaterally cryptorchid, meaning his neuter surgery became an abdominal surgery, much more invasive than is typical.

This is all of course in addition to the day to day expenses of care for our foster dogs while they await their forever homes, such as food, monthly preventatives, and standard supplies like coats, collars, leashes, muzzles, etc.

Every donation, no matter the size, helps keep our hounds running along their path to their loving forever homes! We thank you, and the hounds thank you!
