Headphones help with noise sensitivities and inspire movement too.PAI takes a proactive, person-centered approach to serving individuals living with disabilities, focusing on care, connection, diversity, and accessibility in all we do. PAI is a provider of choice and we have launched an initiative to provide participants with sensory spaces designed to help them calm and focus. With a small start-up grant from Autism Speaks, we learned ways to create environments that:

  • alleviate anxiety and boredom for distressed participants.
  • help people socialize and feel more engaged, especially those who are typically inactive.
  • train staff to work with some of our highest sensory need people – those living with autism and other neurodivergent conditions.
  • make important and bold changes in lighting and colors to facilitate appropriate sensory experiences.

Sensory space in progress.

PAI has implemented one sensory experience area and we are ready to replicate the success we have had with it. During Give to the Max, we are asking donors to contribute in small yet significant ways so we can deploy additional sensory-friendly environments across our four locations.

How we put your contributions to use:

Gifts of $17 create safe, accessible, sensory-appropriate break spaces.

Gifts of $25 provide items that promote sensations of calm or focus depending on the person’s need.

Gifts of $35 train staff to use sensory-friendly techniques and equipment.

Gifts of $50 implement important and bold changes in lighting and color to promote appropriate sensory experiences for participants.

Thank you for supporting PAI. We bring quality of life, work, and community in Places where Abilities Intersect.
