Our vision - a clean and healthy Lake Hiawatha supporting a thriving eco-system and community
We have simple actions you can take to help out with each of our Action Teams.
Lake Clean Ups Team – every Saturday in the spring, summer and fall, we meet at 9am at the Lake Hiawatha Park Building to clean up trash from Lake Hiawatha on foot and in kayaks.
Simple Action – Mark your Calendar for our Earth Day Clean Up Saturday April 20 2019 9am to Noon at Lake Hiawatha with the MCWD and MPRB
Pipe Mitigation Team – contact Sean C to get involved – volunteers working with the City of Minneapolis and MPRB to win approval of a open channel filtration system that will filter out trash and other contaminants flowing out of the large storm sewer pipe that enters directly into the Lake through the 43rd Street Pipe –
Simple Action – Call your City Council & Park Board Member to Ensure the Pipe is Mitigated ASAP
Watershed Friendly Yards & Streets Team – contact Roxanne Stuhr, Master Water Steward to get involved – Because all most of our yards and streets drain directly into Lake Hiawatha with no filtering it is important that we practice watershed friendly yard care and adopt our storm drains prevent trash, leaves and grass clippings from flowing down our storm drains during rain events
