Today I spent my work day social distancing and speaking on the phone with low income adults and families about needs and services. What seems to be the common theme is food support. Many families are unable to "stock up" and once they get to the grocery store it is very limited. In regard to COVID-19, many of them are high risk adults or vulnerable seniors who are dependent on food shelves.
The agency I work for runs a food program where they serve the following populations:
1. Hight Rise Mobile Food Shelf
** Bringing fresh food to over 45 low-income apartment buildings, delivering food to over 3,800 older adults and people with disabilities
2. Senior Food Shelf
**Food shelf for low income seniors 55 and older
3. Families living in Public Housing
**Food shelf for low income families living in Glendale Town Home Public Housing in Minneapolis
Currently, our food program is in dire need of financial support and volunteers in order to keep operating and providing food.
If you are looking to give or chip in money to reduce the financial burden of these programs, please consider visit my fundraising page below.
Support is also needed from healthy people to volunteer by calling older adults or helping us to package food. The most urgent need is at our Senior Food Shelf from 8:30 am-3 pm. Sign up to volunteer at: esns.org/volunteer
Together as a community, we can help flatten the curve and support each other.
