Without the Douglas County Historical Society, pieces of our local history would be lost forever.
It’s through our work—fulfilling our mission to discover, preserve, and disseminate the history of Douglas County and its people—that we know and can share these stories.
DCHS is the oldest museum and archive in Douglas County. Although formally first organized in 1949, a group identifying itself as the Historical Society was meeting as early as 1926 to hear lectures on local history. Almost a century later, we stand on decades of volunteer and community labor that has produced the amazing resource library and collection we care for today.
Our county appropriation covers less than 15% of our annual operations - we need the support of donors like you to meet our mission.
It’s your support that enables us to develop new exhibits like our Rural Schools photograph gallery, host community events like Scan for Keeps and our Artifact Chats, grow our presence in our community, and be stewards of our history—your history.
Will you support the work of DCHS with a financial gift today?
Thanks to your gift and our collaboration with the community, we can preserve and share Douglas County’s history.
Without you, local history would be lost.
