At createMPLS we remove the barriers of cost, transportation, and awareness that prevent students in underrepresented communities from being a part of STEM programs. In the past year, we have spent dedicated time with over 2,000 students at 11 different sites. One of these partnerships is with Eileen and Osseo Area Schools.
This is the second school year that we are partnering with Eileen and her students. Eileen works at the Community-Based Vocational and Assessment & Training program (CBVAT). Students with disabilities who attend this program come from all three local high schools. Scholars at CBVAT are provided with work-based learning opportunities to acquire entry-level skills to competently transition from school to community.
Our mission of preparing students for the future of work is a core value of the work CBVAT is doing with their students. We partner specifically with CBVAT to complete contracted work for scholars to gain work-based learning experiences. CBVAT students help organize our LEGO sets and ensure that our robotics sets are ready to be used by the next set of students. Eileen’s scholars are always so careful, attentive, and quick to complete our projects. Sorting thousands of tiny pins, gears, bricks, etc. is no small task!
We are grateful for this partnership & we look forward to finding more ways to collaborate! It is such a joy to be doing meaningful work side-by-side with Eileen and her students.
We need your help in continuing to provide quality STEM opportunities for students like those from CBVAT. You can join us today in providing accessible and engaging technology programs for all students!
