Support Free and Low-Cost Cultural Performances

CAAM Chinese Dance Theater is dedicated to preserving and celebrating Chinese cultural heritage and enriching a diverse community through the universal language of dance.

We perform at numerous community events, fairs, and festivals throughout the Twin Cities throughout the year, and many of these are free to attend.  See the media gallery on the CAAM page for a glimpse of some of our recent outreach performances.

Community performances are not an income source

While CAAM Chinese Dance Theater may receive a nominal payment from event organizers, this does not cover the costs involved. Preparation for each performance requires one or more of our choreographers to restage individual dances for the available dancers. There is also additional studio rental for the necessary rehearsals. Our dancers gladly volunteer their time for both rehearsal and performance. Costumes and props sustain more damage when used out of a formal staged setting and need more frequent replacement. 

These costs are all simply part of a performing art. We have long decided, it is more important to share the traditions and beauty of Chinese dance than it is to recoup expenses. However, budget constraints do limit the number of performances we can commit to.

Lunar New Year is rapidly approaching, and we want to be able to accept as many performance requests as we can fit into our schedule. Your donation will allow us to participate in many more community events, including those that have little or no budget but have artistic, cultural, or community value.
