Hey Friends! I'm reaching out to you this November in support of the Conservation Corps of Minnesota & Iowa, the organization for which I served my two AmeriCorps terms. I am still involved as a volunteer for CCMI, because despite the fact that I no longer work in natural resources or conservation, I believe very strongly in the work that CCMI is doing- both in terms of the conservation efforts that they undertake and in the valuable life experience they offer to teens and young adults.
While the work I do today is not directly related to conservation, I would not have had the opportunities that brought me to where I am without the lessons learned while serving with CCMI. My time as a Crew Member in Tofte, MN--during which I built and maintained forest trails, fought wildfires, and removed invasive species (SO. MUCH. BUCKTHORN.)--taught me valuable lessons in working as a team, organizing towards completion of complex goals, and maintaining a positive attitude and strong work ethic. Later, my service as a Crew Leader in Bemidji, MN taught me how to lead and manage a team of my peers, all with different backgrounds and personalities. Today, I manage two restaurant staffs (100+ people) for an independent restaurant group in the Twin Cities, and my success in that role is thanks largely to the lessons I've learned in communication, conflict resolution, and teamwork- all skills that I built and honed in my service with the Conservation Corps of Minnesota & Iowa.
Please help support the organization that has done so much for me--both personally and professionally--and that promises to do the same for generations of youth and young adults to come (all while helping to protect some of the Midwest's most valuable natural resources). Everything helps! Even $5 makes a difference if enough people give. Plus, through November 14th (Give to the Max Day), your gifts to CCMI will be matched! So while $5 or $10 may not seem like much, your gift really does make a difference.
Thanks for your support!
Sincerely,
Brian Elder
