PETERSON STATION MUSEUM BUILDING PROJECT
The Friends of Peterson are committed to improving the community. We decorate public buildings for holidays, have lined Mill Street with snowflakes to brighten winter, raised money to install the playground by the campground, hold music and special events throughout the year and take on major projects when asked by the city, museum, or Legion. We are now helping the Peterson Station Museum as described below.
The Peterson Station Museum is raising $60,000 to build an addition to the museum annex to house and preserve Peterson Public School memorabilia from 1924-1991. Thanks to individuals and generous local businesses such as AcenTek and the Peterson Legion, we have already raised $35,000. We need your help to raise the remaining $25,000 before construction begins in May 2021.
Our plan it to build a 36 x 20 ft addition on the back of our present annex building with a 13 ft. ceiling. We are limited by the area between our present building and the power lines and sewer as well as the flood plain. The addition will accommodate trophies and class pictures and allow us to expand our archive area for paper items such as genealogies, books, and additional memorabilia pertaining to Peterson and the surrounding area. If we build it, additional items will come to the museum!
We have the trophy cases, trophies and all the graduation pictures still in the school building, and band memorabilia, but at some time Jon Helland will be selling the old school building, and we will be faced with deciding where to go with these items until we have the proper place to accommodate them. The new annex will be dedicated to Peterson Schools.
Please think about what you can do for the Peterson community. Perhaps your class or family can join together and set a goal to help save the school memorabilia. We could also benefit from donated time and/or materials which will defray our costs. Larry Malmin, a well-known architect in Minnetonka, MN, has already donated his time and experience to design and plan our addition. We also thank Ordell and Lyle Thompson of Thompson Sand for offering to donate all the fill necessary for the project, Darrel Simon for doing the soil preparation, and Wayne Exe for taking care of the gas lines!
