To fight Alzheimer’s, we must learn how it develops from its earliest stages. Donations to the Center for Memory and Aging help us tackle the many issues involved in the struggle with dementia. In this way we can find better ways to identify, treat, and prevent Alzheimer’s symptoms.
One such way we are working to do this is through the Minnesota Memory Project. Launched in 2010 by HealthPartners Center for Memory and Aging, the Minnesota Memory Project is a community-based study that is investigating the cognitive, physical and lifestyle factors associated with advancing age and dementia. This ongoing study follows 500 adults with and without diagnosed memory loss in order to collect information on memory changes with aging.
The goal of the Minnesota Memory Project is to increase the capacity for research on memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias as well as on the care giving of those with dementia to better treat and care for those diagnosed with memory loss.
To better correlate physical activity and sleep with the risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia among project participants, the program would greatly benefit from actigraphs for program participants to wear. An actigraph is a high-quality tool worn on the wrist that measures the wearer’s physical activity and sleep. We would like to be able to purchase more actigraphs for program participants to wear to better record sleep and physical activity.
Make your gift today to help improve treatment and care for individuals with memory loss.
Together, we can build a brighter future for those living with dementia.
