When someone flees an abusive partner, they often leave behind most of their personal belongings and give up their housing in order to get away. Many victims of domestic violence are also emotionally and financially abused, and their abuser may have distanced them from household finances and family/friends. Often they don't have a support system or funds for safe housing, replacements of personal items, and food.
Advocates for Family Peace helps overcome these obstacles. Part of this assistance includes providing safe lodging and housing, as well as meeting basic needs while clients are fleeing abusers and navigating the legal system. AFFP offers emergency housing and lodging, transitional housing, and assistance with rent and security deposits for clients. These options help survivors rebuild their lives and stay safe while waiting for legal proceedings to be completed. We also purchase food, clothing, toiletries, pet food and other necessities to help survivors bridge the gap while waiting for first paychecks, county assistance, or other funding sources to take effect.
Our grant funding does not fully cover many of these expenses, and your donations help put safe roofs over survivors' heads and food in their fridges, as well as purchase basic necessities, clothing, and replacements of items they were forced to leave behind. AFFP has been helping survivors of domestic violence since 1980, and your support will help us provide these services as long as there is a need.
