A Brush with Kindness is a repair program to assist low income homeowners. ABWK provides critical home repair to people in need so that they can stay in their own homes rather than having to find an alternative living situation. One of the largest groups served by the ABWK program is the frail and elderly.  Since its inception in 2011, we have completed 68 projects in our service area!

Northwoods Habitat for Humanity is fortunate to have dedicated volunteers who give of their time to help others in need. Through a community member, we were made aware of an elderly gentleman, "Jim,"  who was living in his home with boarded windows and entrance door. Our crew installed new windows and an entrance door, fixed a hole in the kitchen floor and installed flooring, and replaced some shingles on the garage. Because ABWK relies on repayment for the cost of material, Jim was reluctant to have the repairs completed. But Jim's project was completed (for just under $1,000.00) and paid for by the community member who made the referral.  It was a pleasure to receive the following thank you from Jim: "Greetings... I'd like to express my appreciation to everyone at 'Habitat for Humanity' that contributed to the recent work done on my home - important repairs were done that I could not do on my own , nor afford to have done for me."

As you think about how you can make an impact in our community, please remember people like Jim who simply need a little help to live safely in their homes. Your gift will make a difference every day for the rest of someone's life.
