Brighter Days 2026

In the darkness, she hit the brakes hard.  It was seconds too late, she felt the impact.  In the light of day she went back to look for the puppy.  What she found was heartbreaking.  Four little dogs, including Howie, living in a pile of trash outside an abandoned home.  Howie was unable to stand.

 

All four dogs arrived at our Safe House and Howie was rushed to our vet where x-rays revealed multiple pelvic fractures and a need for advanced medical care in Minnesota.  This is where the miracles started; two volunteer pilots with Pilots N Paws rearranged their weekend to get Howie where he needed to be.  A dedicated foster stepped up to help Howie heal.

 

His medical team includes an orthopedic surgeon and a neurologist who determined that in addition to the fractures, Howie has nerve damage to one back leg.  Right now he’s being monitored with checkups every two weeks.  His team will determine if and when he’s ready for surgery and just what he needs.
