Lovely's Sewing & Arts Collective

Our goal at LSAC is to help expand the minds of the inner city youth and give them the opportunity to Dream Big. The opportunity to learn new skills to share with their families and friends. This is impact. The youth are many pebbles being thrown into a large community pond creating ripples as they share what they have learned and experienced.

Our story is a unique journey to help shift the mindsets of the inner city youth through different experiences outside of the Northside community. We are shifting their mindsets by bringing back life skills that were taken out of the inner city public schools, like sewing. Sewing is the foundation of Lovely's Sewing & Arts Collective. The children create, sell and open saving accounts or add to their existing accounts. We use sewing as a tool to teach patience, focus, leadership and accountability.

The collective part is where we bring in retired professionals, elders and community teachers to share their skills with our youth. The kids have learned screen printing, jewelry making, and financial literacy just to name a few collective skills. 

From the field trips the kids have gone on they have learned how to sculpt prehistoric dinosaurs being shipped off to Dubai with sculpting tools. They have learned about putting and golfing at The Minikahda Club. The have learned how to perfect their dance moves by going to see dancers at the State Theater.
