Floyd Edward Ward loved. He loved his beloved husband, Roger Sorbel. He loved his family, both given and chosen. And he loved the LGBTQ+ community. He showed this love through his joy, encouragement, help, and time.
One organization dear to Floyd was Quatrefoil Library. Founded in 1986, Quatrefoil is a community center that cultivates the free exchange of ideas and makes accessible LGBTQ+ materials for education, inspiration, and preservation. He became a Library member and built community through participating in events like dominoes and social gatherings. Currently, Quatrefoil has over 4,500 members, a 50% increase since 2023. Providing free membership and digital resources—ebooks and audiobooks—means that income and geography are not barriers to life-affirming LGBTQ+ resources and connections.
To honor Floyd’s love of community and dedication to Quatrefoil Library, Roger founded the Floyd Edward Ward Community Engagement Fund. The purpose of the Fund is to support Quatrefoil’s Programming Committee in bringing visibility to the Library, celebrating its members, and fostering connections through community building. The Fund focuses on creating targeted ad campaigns, increasing membership gatherings, and granting honorariums for queer writers, speakers, and leaders within the community. The Fund is an endowment that will support the Library in perpetuity, ensuring that Floyd’s legacy will be remembered for years to come.
Please join me in remembering Floyd and his legacy by making a contribution to the Floyd Edward Ward Community Engagement Fund. Your donation will help Quatrefoil Library reach additional milestones in its programming goals. Thank you for your consideration and generosity.
