During this time of uncertainty, connection is everything. In addition to increasing access to technology for socially engaging and mentally stimulating programming, iPad and other technology innovation at Episcopal Homes is helping provide a single, dependable way for elders and families to access information and announcements relative to COVID-19. Technology has become the key to keeping residents, families, and staff engaged and informed during this crisis.

Although COVID-19 has put restrictions on campus activities, a few leaders from Episcopal Homes have come up with fun and creative ways to keep our residents engaged through the use of technology. Julie Niewald, Wellness Director, is one of the hosts of an on-campus writing club that meets weekly via Zoom. Members can either bring writing to share with the group, or they can just listen to the readings. Residents from all around campus have gotten involved. "I am excited to see how this technology shapes our writing groups moving forward" says Julie.

Technology is being utilized on campus in other ways as well. FaceTime has become the best way for residents to communicate with loved ones. Weekly check-ins are posted on the Episcopal Homes website to keep elders and their families informed on key information. Virtual doctor appointments are being conducted on our shared iPad’s.

Our innovative use of technology has allowed us to maintain the high-level of care our residents deserve. Continuing these practices during the era of COVID-19 is essential. We need your help to keep our residents and families well-informed and engaged during this crisis.
