Amidst a pandemic and the growing needs of people facing homelessness and housing instability, the Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless has worked with our partners to achieve record-breaking wins at the legislature. This year, for every $1 invested in our work, MCH returned $413 to address homelessness and create homes in communities across Minnesota.  During Give to the Max Day 2020, your gift will be matched (up to a total of $5,000) in memory of Jane M. Liedman. Double your gift today and join the community of supporters that are fueling this critical work!

Housing instability affects Minnesotans across urban, suburban, and rural areas of the state. On any given night, there are 20,000 Minnesotans experiencing homelessness with significant over-representation of Black, Indigenous and People of Color.

Winter is upon us and MCH is simultaneously celebrating historic wins while preparing for one of the most challenging legislative sessions in recent years--amidst the reality the homelessness and housing instability is growing. The leadership that MCH brings to the table--along with our dedicated partners and advocates across the State--is essential to building statewide support and elevating the issue of homelessness and housing instability. 2021 is a pivotal legislative session.

Over the past seven months, MCH advocacy (with advocates across Minnesota) has generated thousands of emails sent to lawmakers, hundreds of phone calls, and flooded social media with tweets and Facebook posts/messages.

Your financial support of the Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless makes it possible to build community support, grow local resources, and move forward collectively--toward a vision where every Minnesotan has a safe and dignified home.

Here’s a snapshot of our legislative wins:

COVID Response Legislation and Funding:

  • Eviction Moratorium to ensure housing stability for people during the pandemic;

  • $26,500,000  for Emergency Services Grants to  provide staffing, acquire PPE and supplies, and create safe, temporary spaces indoors such as motel rooms for people experiencing homelessness;

  • $5,500,000 for Housing Supports--a program that provides a rental subsidy for people transitioning from homelessness to permanent housing;

  • $100,000,000 for rent, mortgage and utility assistance to prevent homelessness.

After five special sessions, the bonding bill passed which included $116M in bonds for housing:

  • $100,000,000 in Housing Infrastructure Bonds to build and preserve safe and dignified homes;

  • $16,000,000 in General Obligation Bonds for public housing rehabilitation.

Your gift to MCH invests in concrete policy change. Whether it’s advocacy for safe and dignified homes or shelter for individuals and families experiencing homelessness, your support helps thousands of Minnesotans access shelter, housing and support.

I invite you to take action today and make a generous gift of $1,000, $500, $250, $100, or $50 or select the option to donate monthly, starting at $13/month. Every gift makes a difference.
