The Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless (MCH) is a powerful community of advocates, member organizations, and partners that come together to advocate for solutions to end homelessness. We are in this work for the long haul, and over the years supporters and advocates have created the space for transformational policy change, funding wins, and on-the-ground technical assistance for our partners working to create shelter and homes in communities across Minnesota.

But the true strength of our coalition lies in how we do the work.

  • Community Building and Inclusivity: We have led and inspired other collaborative institutions to center lived experience leadership and move forward boldly together. We are proud of our inclusive representation, celebrating the voices of Tribal Nations, individuals with lived experiences of homelessness, and organizations that might otherwise go unheard. This enriches and strengthens our collective work. By working with homeless services providers and advocates with lived experience, we powerfully engage members committed to ensuring that shelter saves lives and housing ends homelessness.

  • Relationships and Powerful Outcomes: We prioritize creating space and leadership opportunities for people with lived experiences of homelessness to guide and lead our work. We invest time and resources to utilize the strengths of each individual with lived experience so they feel confident and heard in their advocacy. This work is purposeful and time intensive, requiring time to support individual skills and relationships that are resulting in transformational policy change and investments in the homeless response system. We work closely with partner organizations and our member organizations to identify the solutions needed and work in partnership to achieve them.

  • Advocacy and Influence in Policy Work: MCH’s dedication to affecting systemic change is reflected in our advocacy for policies that prioritize programs and funding that have the greatest impact in addressing homelessness and addressing the deep disparities that exist for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. In May of 2023, MCH achieved the largest and most significant investments to address homelessness and create homes in Minnesota history including:

    • $100 million investment to enhance and create shelter

    • Significant and permanent increases in funding for shelter operations, staffing, and street outreach through the Emergency Services Program

    • $95 million in funding to prevent and address homelessness through the Family Homeless Prevention Assistance Program

    • Policy changes to the Housing Support program to promote long-term housing stability

    • Funding and policy changes to make the Landlord Risk Mitigation Program program a permanent program

    • $285 million investment to create and preserve homes

We have so much more to accomplish and you can propel us into 2024 with your gift!

As advocates of shelter and homes, we know that you have been a key part of changing systems and making wins happen at the legislature. Community support allows us to be nimble and adapt our approach over time to meet the changing landscape and needs of communities while ensuring that our work remains relevant, vibrant, and strong—and it’s working! Every donation to MCH goes beyond the immediate impact. It becomes a commitment to the long haul, a pledge to a cause that requires consistent dedication and resilience.

We invite you to join us again with your giving and to play an important role in closing the gaps that have been left by historic disinvestment in shelters and homes. Your gift can help unlock a matching grant of $10,000 from the Frey Foundation! By increasing your gift by 10% over last year or making a gift after taking a year off from giving to MCH, your gift will go twice as far to address homelessness, ensure safe shelter, and create homes across Minnesota.
