Black, Bold and Brilliant GTMAX 2024

We are fundraising to support our 5th annual MLK Black youth Talent showcase (youth stipends), Kwanzaa celebration, Black History workshops and our annual Black youth internship and retreat. 

Will you help Black youth and families work together as leaders to make a positive change in our community? To imagine and help cultivate a community that is healing, loving, safe and thriving?  

Black, Bold and Brilliant is a cultural arts, education and leadership development organization serving Black youth and families in North Minneapolis.

Black, Bold and Brilliant was created to battle societal ills such as violence, police brutality and crime by engaging Black youth and families with opportunities in arts, cultural education,  and civic leadership development. 

Why art, cultural education, civics and leadership? 

Art

The exploration of art making connects us to the Almighty creator and our highest selves. Art cultivates self esteem and healing thru expression. It is a journey where we are able to discover ourselves and our desires. It is a central part of Black and African Diaporic culture and history. Art is a central component to all BBB events and programming. 

Cultural Education

Black- What does it mean? BBB defines Black as Brilliant, creative, loving, inventive, resourceful, engaging, active, connected, joyful, compassionate and united. This is critical education to cultivate young leaders that are proud of their history and believe in their present ability to shape a brighter future. At BBB we affirm all the beauty, ingenuity and brilliance of Blackness and dispel myths of inferiority through concrete examples in history and the present. 

Civics

We activate Black youth and families to shape a community that we deserve through reflection, discussion, collaboration, action, and engagement.  So many people are unaware of the many political offices that shape our local community. Black, Bold and Brilliant is working to correct that. Every summer thru our internship program we charge Black youth to lead a community action project. Thru our curriculum we engage them as thought leaders in critical thinking, research, planning and implementation. They learn about local political offices roles, responsibilities and requirements. We facilitate space to engage them as creative thought leaders that can collaboratively problem solve our community’s challenges. Most importantly they engage in ethical leadership thru service. 

Our Record

Since launching in June of 2020 our annual programming includes; Black Youth empowerment summit, community celebrations, book clubs, summer retreats & internships, cultural field trips, MLK Black Youth Talent Showcase, Black history and Juneteenth artistic workshops featuring dance, visual arts, literature, acting, spoken word and more. 

Our goal

$10,000 We understand that the work we are doing is critical and essentially a Rites of Passage program. We are a volunteer ran organization and we need your financial support to help fund our 2024 events/ programming and to help launch our official Rites of passage program. Your support ensures that Black youth and families will continue to be a part of programming that promotes unity, creativity, critical thinking and action. Programming that enriches their cultural pride, identity and self actualization.
