Survivor Resources is a non-profit organization that provides immediate and long-term services to families who have experienced the loss of a loved one through homicide, suicide, accident, and overdose deaths. Survivor Resources provides immediate services through referrals from the homicide unit, accident unit, chaplains, and officers acting as a liaison to assist families who are suffering traumatic grief and many times need help to manage and understand the law enforcement response, courts, and financial assistance processes. Long-term support includes weekly support groups with trained facilitators, who have experienced loss themselves, free of charge thanks to private and in-kind donations, and state and federal grants.
To date this year, Survivor Resources has provided over 18,000 services to more than 7,000 families. We provide assistance in many forms, depending on what each family needs. In addition to these individual services, since the start of the pandemic we have been offering 10 weekly support groups virtually. In 2022, as we move back toward more in-person support groups, we have 13 support groups and have found a need to continue with virtual groups for those who are not in driving distance to a group. Although it is very beneficial for group members to meet face to face, this virtual platform has allowed clients out of the metro area and out state to connect with others that truly understand them and what they are trying to process.
While expanding our services virtually makes sense, doing both in-person and virtual groups comes with additional costs. In order to maintain client contacts and provide the best, most consistent services possible, a client database is critical. Cost of such a database and maintenance of it is over $10,000 a year.
Costs continue to increase in all services we need to provide services to others. Phone, computers, networks, databases, newspapers, interpreters, insurance, virtual platforms, are just some of the on-going costs. Grant funding has been stagnated for several years even though costs continue to rise. We realize everyone is tightening their belts. Please consider a donation, no matter the amount. Every dollar helps to provide services for these ever-increasing needs. It takes a village, and we need our village to help us continue to help others. Every dollar helps!
The need for our services continues to be at an all-time high. Please consider making a donation allowing us to continue offering our services free of charge to those that have lost a loved one to homicide, suicide, accident, or overdose.
