tl;dr I'm raising money to support folks who are homeless. Please support them and me with a gift!

And if you're in Minneapolis, walk with me, too!

Last year I joined the staff at Agate Housing and Services. It's been a great fit after a rough year with layoffs before that. And now I'm working in housing again, which is perfect. Because I believe having a home is fundamental to a good life.

My home means everything to me. The safety and calm I feel there cannot be expressed. I try to imagine my life without that space, and I can't. Besides, where would I cuddle my puppies?!?

On Saturday, March 8th, I'm going to Walk in the Life

Being unhoused and unsheltered is dangerous all year round, but winter presents its own set of life-threatening challenges. At the Walk, I'll walk a mile outside in a Minnesota winter to raise awareness for those who have to live there. And I'm raising money to support them, too. Will you help? We're supporting people like Shannon.

“I honestly didn’t think it would be possible to have good times again; to laugh. But a lot of really good stuff has come my way. Lots of good stuff I never expected.”

When Shannon met Agate, she was using drugs and living in a tent during Minnesota’s winter. An Agate staff person worked with her to get her stable and housed. But she was wary of authority figures because of past trauma. She had a hard time truly committing to the work.

Then she lost her partner. She fell deeper into addiction until she overdosed and hit bottom.

Agate staff offered her a chance to go into rehab. Shannon agreed. And then she fought. She worked incredibly hard to pick up the pieces of her life. It took a lot. Thankfully, she had support along the way. That, and her commitment to change, made all the difference.

Shannon’s story is not unique. Nor is her resilience and strength.

When you donate to Agate, you make stories' like Shannon's possible. Make your gift today and it will be doubled. That's double the chance to change the next Shannon's life.
