Journey North Opera Company is proud to present the Minnesota premiere of Missy Mazzoli's Proving Up this November at the Southern Theater in Minneapolis!
Please join us in bringing this story of hope, disillusionment, and the American Dream to the stage while supporting local artists through a women-led, volunteer-run nonprofit!
Directed by Amanda Carlson with music direction by Brian Dowdy, Proving Up is set in 1860’s Nebraska, following a pioneer family’s journey as they become homesteaders in the unrelenting harshness of the prairie, in pursuit of the American Dream. Based on a short story by Pulitzer Prize winning author Karen Russell, and composed by Grammy Award winning composer Missy Mazzoli, this visceral, haunting opera has been hailed as “harrowing… powerful… a true opera of our time” (Washington Post), “Crackling[sic] with energy” (San Francisco Classical Voice), and “Masterful” (OperaWire).
