Why I’m Supporting ABEP — and Why You Should Too

I’m supporting the Association for Black Economic Power (ABEP) because I’ve seen what happens when access, education, and ownership finally meet. ABEP was created by the voices of North Minneapolis to confront racial economic inequities head-on — and that mission is still alive and powerful today.

Through its Financial Empowerment Center (FEC), ABEP doesn’t just teach financial literacy — it equips people to take action. Whether it’s through workshops, 1-on-1 coaching, or community partnerships, ABEP is helping families build confidence, control, and real financial power. And now, with Arise Community Credit Union — Minnesota’s first Black-led credit union (open to everyone) — they’re creating infrastructure that keeps wealth circulating in the community.

I support ABEP because this is what real change looks like. Every dollar given on Give to the Max Day fuels education that turns into empowerment. It helps someone move from surviving to saving, from confusion to clarity, and from instability to security.
