What an extraordinary Give to the Max Day. Because of the generosity and spirit of this community, we have now raised more than $62,000 to support Sabathani’s Food Distribution Center — surpassing our original year-end goal before the statewide celebration even began. 🎉

We are deeply grateful to everyone who gave, shared, and helped lift up our mission.

Even though the federal shutdown has ended and SNAP benefits have resumed, many families are still experiencing delays, confusion about eligibility, and gaps in monthly support. Food shelf visits have surged across Minnesota, and at Sabathani we’ve seen a noticeable increase throughout November. Your gifts are helping us meet that need in real time.

Surpassing our goal early strengthens our ability to:

  • purchase food at wholesale prices
  • keep our shelves stocked through the winter
  • support the thousands of households we serve each month

If you didn’t have a chance to contribute yesterday, you can still make a difference. All donations made through this page — or at sabathani.org/donate — through December 31 will go directly toward our Food Distribution Center and count toward our year-end total.

Thank you for showing what community looks like. Let’s carry this momentum forward into the winter season. 💚

UPDATE — November 21
Thanks to our community’s incredible generosity, we’ve now raised more than $62,000 in support of Sabathani’s Food Distribution Center — surpassing our initial year-end goal ahead of schedule. 🎉

If you didn’t get a chance to give yesterday, it’s not too late. Every gift made here or at sabathani.org/donate through December 31 will directly support our Food Distribution Center and help meet the growing demand this winter.

Thank you for stepping up for South Minneapolis!

UPDATE — November 18
We’ve now raised over $58,000, surpassing both our Give to the Max milestone and our year-end goal early! Although SNAP benefits have resumed after the shutdown, many families are still feeling the ripple effects — and food shelf visits at Sabathani have increased in recent weeks. Every additional dollar now helps us meet rising demand and keep shelves stocked into the new year.

Feed Hope for the Holidays

This November, thousands of families across Minnesota face a new crisis: a disruption in SNAP benefits, the nation’s primary program ensuring access to food and nutrition.

More than 40 million Americans rely on SNAP each month, but because of the ongoing government shutdown, many families may lose the food benefits they count on to make ends meet.

When food access disappears, stability in every other part of life starts to crumble — financial health, child development, community connection, even housing.

At Sabathani Community Center, we’re seeing the effects firsthand. More families than ever are turning to our Food Distribution Center, which has served South Minneapolis since 1975.

In 2024, we distributed 814,534 pounds of food, supporting 8,480 households and 17,529 individuals. Today, we serve about 85 clients a day, each representing a household that relies on Sabathani to stay nourished and stable.

Our appointment-based system — launched in 2025 — allows for better efficiency, shorter wait times, and improved dignity for our clients. Our shelves are filled with care, and our multilingual staff ensure every visitor feels seen and supported.

Now, with SNAP benefits uncertain, the need is rising sharply.

Our Goal

We’re raising $50,000 by December 31 to meet the growing demand — and our first milestone is to raise $20,000 by Give to the Max Day (Nov. 20).

Your gift will help us:

  • Stock fresh produce and essential groceries

  • Support families navigating food insecurity

  • Keep our Food Distribution Center open and strong for everyone who needs it

If we reach our goal early, we’ll activate a stretch goal of $15,000, bridging the full $65,000 giving gap we face this year.

How You Can Help

Every gift makes a difference:

  • $25 helps stock fresh produce and staples

  • $50 supports a week’s worth of groceries for a family

  • $100+ helps feed dozens of neighbors in need

All gifts made through this page, by check, or via sabathani.org/donate will count toward our Give to the Max total through Nov. 20. (If donating by check, make payable to Sabathani Community Center and mail to 310 East 38th Street, Minneapolis MN 55409.)

We welcome both one-time and monthly gifts — recurring donors are especially vital in helping us plan ahead.

Together, We Feed Hope

Sabathani has always been community serving community.

Let’s meet this moment together and make sure no family in South Minneapolis goes hungry.

Give today. Feed hope for the holidays.
