An affiliate of the Southwest Initiative Foundation, the Heron Lake-Okabena Community Foundation benefits the HL-O area in Minnesota.

Mission Statement 

To enrich the community by promoting education and opportunities in the hope of creating a legacy of pride and partnership.

Grant total since inception (including grants made for operating expenses): $123,164

Fiscal Year 2016 Grantmaking  

Awarded grants totaling $20,821, including:

City of Okabena to:

  • replace their chairs
  • support the replacement of Welcome Banners for the city of Okabena

Heron Lake American Legion Post 224 to support creating a Veterans Memorial Book from the names on the granite stones in the Veterans Memorial

Heron Lake Library to support new shelving in the YA/ Juvenile room at the library

ISD #330 - Southwest Star Concept Schools for:

  • the stage renovation project at the school
  • support of replacement of woodworking equipment

ISD #330 - Southwest Star Elementary School to:

  • support a commercial washing machine
  • support installation of an indoor batting cage
  • support the sixth grade overnight trip to Camp Foster

Lutheran Social Service to provide hot, home-delivered meals to elderly individuals in Heron Lake and Okabena

Okabena Legion Post #608 to support baseball team uniforms
