Wykoff's Historic 1913 Jail

Wykoff's Historic Jail Haus B&B needs a new roof.  Built in 1913, Wykoff’s Jail saw its last official ‘resident’ around 1960.

In 1986, the Wykoff City Council asked the local Lions organization to look into the possibility of restoration, but the cost was considered excessive.  The Council was considering tearing the jail down. When the word of this hit the street, the local cafés morning coffee crowd began discussing the problem, considering what they could do.  On October 1, 1986, the jail saw its first overnight resident “inmates” in nearly 30 years, a local couple who spent the night there celebrating their golden wedding anniversary.

Renovation and restoration of the interior began in 1993 with volunteer labor and donated materials.  The Historic Wykoff Jail Haus B&B was officially opened in September 1993 during the annual Wykoff Fall Fest.

The Wykoff Area Historical Society has been charged with overseeing the building and reservations since 1993.  The historical society has repeatedly patched the roof, but the old jail is in desperate need of a new roof, the cost of which is beyond what our historical society can bare. This project is necessary to keep the Historic Wykoff Jail Haus B&B operational.
