West Side Farmers Market is dedicated to building a healthier and happier West Side community by strengthening resilience in our local food economy.

The West Side Farmers Market is committed to fostering a resilient, small-scale local food economy on the West Side of Saint Paul and the surrounding area. We believe this happens by creating a space for emerging food producers to share their bounty with West Side residents, creating opportunities for folks experiencing food insecurity to access healthy, locally-grown food and educating the community about food preservation, food production and functional nutrition. We provide the space for community members to connect with each other and with community-serving organizations, and for local artists to share their work and bring joy to their neighbors.

Climate change’s negative impacts are already being felt across the globe and here in Minnesota and agriculture is the main driver of climate change. Communities will need to be more self-sufficient as 20th century models of living and eating become obsolete. By helping West Siders reduce their food miles, eat in season, and grow their own food, we are both mitigating and adapting to climate change. We are building a more resilient future for our diverse neighborhood and the local food system. Resilience is built through social, economic, and environmental change; WSFM is building capacity for all three..

WSFM is a community gathering place for our culturally and economically diverse neighborhood to connect with neighbors, access affordable local foods, and access community resources. We approach each market as an event: promoting not just our vendors and their produce, but also any artists, events, or community organizations attending the market. This attitude keeps the market fun, friendly, and inviting. We cultivate equity and inclusion by offering the ability to use EBT and WIC at the farmers market, secure matching dollars for EBT customers to further their dollar, print materials in English and Spanish, and have a diverse group of vendors from immigrant, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ communities.

WSFM supports emerging farmers and small local food producers by providing a welcoming and nurturing atmosphere to learn the craft of vending and make authentic connections with their customers. WSFM is committed to being a neighborhood market with abundant fresh, affordable, local food where the community can gather, connect, learn, and experience the vibrant arts our community has to offer.
