Let’s Keep Minnesota a Safe Haven for Reproductive Rights — And Start Aiming Even Higher

Let’s not beat around the bush: we’re living in a scary time for reproductive freedom. The fall of Roe v. Wade in 2022 launched us into a harrowing new chapter of the fight for abortion rights. Nationally, anti-abortion extremists are being platformed by the Trump administration and empowered by the increasing influence of White Christian Nationalism. 

But in Minnesota, we’ve written a different story. Our movement’s tireless and forward-thinking work — before, during, and after Roe’s fall — has kept our state a safe haven for reproductive rights. We have much to be proud of, but our work is far from done. 

Even here, people still face logistical, financial and systemic barriers that put reproductive care out of reach. And as threats grow bolder across the country – including the violence that touched our own movement this summer – we can’t afford to stand still. Together, we have the power to build on what we’ve done and make sure every Minnesotan (and those who come here seeking care) can access the full spectrum of reproductive care with dignity and freedom.

In the year to come, we’ll be working with our partners to gain a deeper understanding of the abortion access landscape in Minnesota, 3+ years after the fall of Roe. Before we can close gaps, we need to see them and name them so we can advocate powerfully at the Capitol. That’s why we want to learn: 

What barriers to abortion care remain in Minnesota? 

• How can we further advance reproductive justice into our state laws and culture? 

• & how can UnRestrict best step up to meet our current moment?

Together, we’re excited to forge an audacious, community-led next chapter — towards a truly UnRestricted future for all Minnesotans.

Who is UnRestrict Minnesota? 

We are a multi-racial coalition of LGBTQ+ advocates, faith communities, clinicians, activists, doctors, abortion funds, lawyers, organizers, health care clinics, doulas, and more. Our vision is to achieve full reproductive justice, an organizing framework created by Black women where every person has the ability to decide if, when, and how to become a parent; raise children in safe and thriving communities; and have gender freedom and bodily autonomy.
