United Communities Advocating Non-Violence Inc. (UCAN) is a local non-profit whose vision is "to create an abuse free community"

UCAN Inc. is a community group whose vision is "to create an abuse free community"...to help achieve this we have embraced the following mission statement..."to transform the community and the lives of those affected by abuse through support, awareness, education and involvement".

The UCAN effort has a focus on getting more men involved in the effort to eliminate domestic violence.  Each October UCAN helps to sponsor a Taking Steps Against Domestic Violence walk and a Domestic Abuse Awareness Luncheon. 

UCAN works primarily through the business environment and has had great support from local businesses. 

 Other UCAN efforts include:  Mayor's Peace Challenge, End Abuse Pledge, Awareness Booklet, Violence in the Workplace trainings, weekly peace message.

UCAN meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 0700 a.m. and is always looking for more people who are willing to raise their hand and say they will be involved in the effort to eliminate domestic violence. 

This year UCAN is focusing on efforts to provide "primary prevention" awareness training on domestic and sexual violence.
