Founder’s Belief

TTL was founded in 2014 by Rolanda DeShield. She believes when individuals are provided the right educational opportunities to support their learning, they develop the knowledge and skills which prepare them to achieve their dreams and become positive contributing members in their communities and the world.


Why TTL?

Transformation Through Literacy (TTL), a Non-Profit changing life through educational opportunities by reaching out, providing help, and giving hope to children and families in the United States and Liberia, West Africa.  Though Liberia is the oldest Republic in Africa, today, it is one of the poorest countries in Africa and the world.  Liberia became an independent nation in 1847.   After years of civil war, government corruption, and Ebola, the country educational infrastructure has totally collapsed.   Liberia has the most children out of school worldwide, about 62% of students do not attend school.  Upon arrival into the United States of American, most Liberian students lack the basic academic stills to thrive and become successful learners.  


TTL’s Work

TTL was founded to transform lives through education.

For the past four years, TTL has provided financial support to 60 students in Monrovia, Liberia by paying their school tuition and fees.  As part of their ongoing work in Liberia, for the past two years, TTL has shipped educational materials and school supplies to students in Monrovia. Next year TTL’s goal is provide financial support to 120 students by paying their school tuition and fees for one year. 

TTL supports children and families in Minnesota by providing services and identifying resouces to assist them during the pandemic.
