Welcome from the President
Rev. Dr. Jeremey King
One of my favorite theologians, Henri Nouwen, wrote this about leadership within the Church:
“The Christian leader of the future is called to be completely irrelevant and to stand in this world with nothing to offer but his or her own vulnerable self. That is the way Jesus came to reveal God's love. The great message that we have to carry, as ministers of God's Word and followers of Jesus, is that God loves us not because of what we do or accomplish, but because God has created and redeemed us in love and has chosen us to proclaim that love as the true source of all human life.”
Here at The Master’s Institute, we couldn’t agree more. Our deepest desire is the development of Spirit-filled Christian leaders who experience, know, and live out the Good News of the Kingdom. We are a vibrant community dedicated to the transformational journey of theological education. At our core, we embody the belief that we are a seminary of the Church, by the Church, and for the Church, meaning that all of our leadership and faculty are practitioners in their fields first. We are out in our congregations serving shoulder-to-shoulder with those called to become our next generation of pastors and leaders.
In the spirit of Henri Nouwen's profound insights from In the Name of Jesus, we embrace a vision of leadership rooted in servanthood and solidarity. Nouwen challenges us to move beyond the attraction of external relevance, success, and power, reminding us that true Christian leadership is found in cross-shaped, self-sacrificial love expressed in a radical discipleship to Jesus. At MI, we strive to cultivate leaders who not only possess theological knowledge, but who also embody Christ-like humility and compassion. This happens as we focus on equipping the heart, head, and hands for ministry.
Our commitment to theological education is grounded in deep reverence for Scripture and tradition, yet we are also responsive to the evolving challenges and opportunities facing the Church today. Through rigorous academic study, spiritual formation, and practical ministry experience, we prepare men and women to serve the Church faithfully in diverse contexts and cultures.
To that end we have two masters-level opportunities that integrate excellent academics with extensive Christian character formation and practical leadership development training. We optimize students’ stewardship as they develop their individual calling. Our desire is for students to leave seminary with no debt so that financial concerns won’t be a roadblock to following their calling. Your financial gifts to The Master's Institute aid us in this mission and allow us to continue to provide high-level education at an affordable cost to the next generation of spirit-filled leaders!
In the Name of Jesus,
