The Northeast Orchestra was founded in 1972 and consists of persons who play for their own enjoyment. There are not many orchestral groups located in Anoka County. Persons who say they once played instruments and might start playing again frequently approach us at concerts. We encourage them and, if appropriate, give them information about community bands. Almost all our members fall in the category of “once played and have started again.” We rehearse Friday mornings and consequently our membership is mainly at or near retirement age. We also have younger players who have arranged their employment (and even home schooling) to be with us. We play four concerts a year in the Fridley/Columbia Heights area, in November, February, March and May.  Check out our website.  Dr. Jeffrey Stirling has been serving as music director of the Northeast Orchestra since 2002 and has helped us to significantly increase our excellence as individuals and as a whole orchestra. Dr. Stirling is also the music director of the Saint Paul Civic Symphony and the First Unitarian Society Orchestra. In recent seasons Dr. Stirling has been a guest conductor with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and a cover conductor with the Minnesota Orchestra. Stirling has also directed orchestra programs at the University of Minnesota School of Music and other colleges. Dr. Stirling holds degrees from Yale and Northwestern University.
