A Recipe for Change

Sweet Potato Comfort Pie was founded in 2014 by Rose McGee in response the
events in Ferguson, MO. Through this journey Ms. McGee discovered that the pies were far more than a vehicle for comfort and culture — they were a catalyst for change.

Ms. McGee has been forging her own brand of baking, community building and activism ever since. The organization produces two large events per year (the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday of Service, and the Juneteenth Jubilee), runs a youth/elder mentorship program, creates major works of art such as a play and traveling photo exhibit amplifying BIPOC leaders, hosts speaker series and story circles, and continues to respond to ongoing community crises with empathy and healing. We can't do it without you! Please help us continue to bring this healing work to our world. For more information visit our website.

Sweet Potato Comfort Pie’s mission is to advance racial justice and equity, heal damage caused by race-based trauma, elevate marginalized voices and experiences, and foster conversation and community engagement. We nurture Black healing and forge multicultural alliances/relationships and youth/elder mentorships that deepen commitment to racial justice work.
