Sunrise of Life is dedicated to improving the lives of street children in Arusha, Tanzania.

Mission Statement: Sunrise of Life is dedicated to providing assistance to the street children of Arusha, Tanzania and do this by proving these children with the basic needs for survival: food, shelter, healthcare, and education. Sunrise of Life believes in creating opportunity for those children who have no opportunities available to them.

Sunrise of Life began in 2011 when SOL’s founders, Tom Kuperus and Katie Nord, met each other while volunteering in Arusha, Tanzania. Both volunteering for separate organizations, they one day stumbled upon a local organization called CCF that was housing street children, but was in immediate need of assistance. After getting attached to the children, both returned to North America with the goal of funding enough money to help support the small group of children living at the center through the year.

That was over 5 years ago now and Sunrise of Life is now supporting over 50 street children at its residential center and has opened the doors to a new drop in center, which provides assistance to kids currently living on the streets. The goal of Sunrise of Life is to take as many kids off the street we possibly can and reunite them with their families. However, not all the kids can go back home so SOL provides them with a place to live, food, clothing and most importantly an education.

With the continued addition of children over the years, Sunrise of Life has had to continually hire staff to meet the needs of the children and the day-to-day operations of running a residential center and drop in center. SOL currently employs 11 Tanzanian staff members ranging from social workers, to cooks,  to childcare workers, and a center manager. With the continued growth of SOL our financial obligations continue to rise. The annual cost to operate two centers in Tanzania is likely to be over $50,000 by the end of 2016.

On Give To The Max Day our goal is to raise over $3,000 to help cover the rising costs of school tuition, structural repairs to buildings and improve sustainability projects. Our 501 (c) 3 organization is completely volunteer based so 100% of donations go directly to running the residential center and drop in center in Tanzania.
