About SAVE

SAVE – Suicide Awareness Voices of Education is a national nonprofit working to end the tragedy of suicide through education, training, advocacy, and supporting suicide loss survivors.

Our work is based on the belief that suicide is preventable. Through raising public awareness, educating communities, training key stakeholders, advocating for systemic change, and providing unwavering support for loss survivors, we know we can SAVE lives.

Programs and services

Education and training

Through programs like the student-based Green Bandana Project, IBEAM (construction industry-specific suicide prevention training), free online One Step Ahead training, and gun lock distribution, SAVE raises awareness about suicide as a public health issue, works to reduce stigma around mental health, and promotes lethal means safety and open discussions about suicide and prevention. SAVE's education and training programs teach participants about the risk factors, protective factors and warning signs associated with suicide to identify people who may be at risk and refer them to resources, and promote help-seeking behaviors among attendees and their communities. SAVE trainings offer communication and intervention techniques to support someone who is suicidal, which include actively listening, offering empathy, and connecting the person to appropriate professional help.

Advocacy

SAVE's advocacy efforts include Kayla's HOPE, which strategizes with private and public partners to implement physical suicide prevention barriers on high-risk structures. We're also fighting for common-sense legislation at state and national levels to hold big tech companies accountable for protecting youth from online harms that increase their risk of isolation, depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation.

Grief support for suicide loss survivors

Our support services aim to address the unique needs and challenges faced by those grieving suicide loss. Services include connecting families with others who have experienced similar pain through our Suicide Awareness Memorial event, which remembers and honors the lives of those lost. SAVE provides resource packets that include information about suicide grief, services, hotlines, and community-based organizations for specialized support. 2025 projects include the launch of a platform providing pathways for families to receive financial support in the aftermath of a suicide loss and the expansion of our Named Memorial Program to tell more complete stories of people lost to suicide, beyond just their portraits, birth, and death dates. These programs seek to aid survivors in navigating the complex emotions and impacts associated with suicide bereavement and facilitate healing, resilience, and ultimately post-traumatic growth.

Your support allows us to provide education, training, and grief support to communities in Minnesota and nationwide. Without contributions like yours, SAVE would not be able to offer resources and assistance to policymakers and those in need or advocate for protections and interventions to prevent suicide. Your donation saves lives. Thank you!
