About SAVE

SAVE was one of the nation’s first organizations dedicated to preventing suicide. Our work is based on the foundation and belief that suicide is preventable and everyone has a role to play in preventing suicide. Through raising public awareness, educating communities, and equipping every person with life-saving skills, we know we can SAVE lives.

Our Programs and Services

Training and educating community stakeholders.

Through our signature programs like The Green Bandana Project, IBEAM, and LEADS: For Youth curriculum, SAVE aims to raise awareness about suicide as a public health issue, reduce stigma around mental health, and promote open discussions about suicide and its prevention. Participants engaging in our programs are taught to recognize the risk factors and warning signs associated with suicide and to identify individuals who might be at risk and require intervention. Our education and training programs also promote help-seeking behaviors, which encourages participants to be proactive in seeking help for themselves or others who may be struggling with suicidal thoughts or mental health issues. Last, our program participants are trained in communication and intervention techniques to support someone who is suicidal. This includes active listening, offering empathy, and connecting the individual to appropriate professional help.

Providing grief support to those who have lost a loved one to suicide.

Our grief support services aim to address the unique needs and challenges faced by those who are grieving a suicide loss. Some of our grief services include connecting families with other suicide loss survivors who have experienced similar pain through our grief support group database. SAVE also provides grief packets to families that include information about suicide grief, mental health services, support hotlines, and community-based organizations that offer specialized support for suicide loss survivors. Additionally, our Suicide Awareness Memorial event remembers and honors the lives of those lost to suicide. These programs play a vital role in helping individuals navigate the complex emotions associated with suicide bereavement and facilitate healing and resilience in the aftermath of a suicide loss.

Your support of SAVE allows us the opportunity to provide education, training, and grief support to individuals, families and communities in Minnesota and across the country. SAVE would not be able to offer resources or help those in need if it were not for the support of our contributors. Thank you for your generous support!
