St. Paul Art Collective

We support artists and arts organizations in St. Paul. We sponsor and organize events & exhibitions.

Your donation promotes the arts in St. Paul. Established in 1977, the Saint Paul Art Collective (SPAC) empowers St. Paul artists through expanding connections and inspirational spaces in which to create and grow. Recognizing that art is essential for a healthy and vibrant community, SPAC has pioneered such major public events as the biannual Saint Paul Art Crawl and special projects like the founding of the first artist residence cooperative in Saint Paul. The Art Crawl occurs every spring and fall, attracting tens of thousands of visitors to view and purchase art, meet artists, tour studio buildings, and be a part of the cultural life of the city.

SPAC celebrated its 25th anniversary of Art Crawls in 2016 and will celebrate its 40th anniversary as an organization in 2017. Other SPAC programs include Lowertown First Fridays, a monthly open studio and performance event that includes interactive workshops, Art in the Park, a gallery space in CHS Field that provides Saint Paul Saints fans with access to the arts during 50+ home baseball games, and display opportunities for St Paul artists throughout the year in locations such as Town Square and AZ Gallery.  Plans are currently being made to sponsor a St Paul artist wide show during the Saint Paul Winter Carnival in January & February, 2017.

In 2014, SPAC also completed a Feasibility Study with Artspace as consultants, looking at the possibility of establishing an arts center in Lowertown as well as an historic arts district which would help artists faced with gentrification issues. SPAC has now formed an action committee, the Lowertown Arts Initiative, that is working with City of St Paul officials implement some of the recommendations from the study.
