Robert joined a gang as a young man, hoping to find security and community. Instead, he spent time in prison and had to do the hardest thing any parent could imagine- bury his young son. Robert visited Small Sums in September after learning about us through our partner organization, Mile in My Shoes. With their help, Robert found a job as a barber, a skill he'd learned during his time in prison. Now, he needed our support to get the required tools for his new job.
Small Sums provided Robert with everything he needed to succeed as an independent barber!
Because of the support of our generous donors, Robert received a Small Sums "Tools for the Job" package, including work gear, non-slip shoes, clippers, razors, a cape, and transportation. It was an honor to serve Robert and the hundreds of others like him. Despite all he has overcome, Robert remains committed to sharing joy and hope with his community. He is currently living in stable housing, fully employed, and sharing his infectious smile with all who cross his path. Before Robert left our offices, he said, "I'm excited to embark on this new journey." We are too!
For the past 17 years, Small Sums has helped Minnesotans facing housing insecurity find stability. We remain committed to our community by providing the work gear folks need to start a new job (i.e., non-skid shoes, transportation, tools of the trade), sharing kindness, and offering supportive services to help our clients stay employed.
When you give to Small Sums, your gift will be DOUBLED (up to $12,500) thanks to matching funds from our generous sponsor, SFM Mutual Insurance. We expect a record-breaking year and to serve more than 800 clients by the end of 2022!
A gift today helps those struggling to get back on their feet with the work gear they need to say yes to the job! With your help, we can continue to outfit every eligible individual who comes to Small Sums.
Like Robert, our clients demonstrate tenacity and grit by securing a job offer, despite the stress and obstacles faced while experiencing housing insecurity and homelessness. We believe the inability to purchase work gear should never be a barrier for individuals who want to work. Join us in helping folks get back to work.
Give to the Max now!
