It begins with a door — a small, simple thing, yet for someone without a place to call home, it means everything: safety, dignity, and possibility.

For more than forty years, Simpson Housing Services has been opening doors and creating spaces of stability and belonging for people experiencing and transitioning out of homelessness. With your partnership, we’ve built something far greater than a shelter: a community grounded in compassion, equity, and purpose.

In 2024, we broke ground on the Simpson Community Shelter & Apartments and continued to provide dignified shelter and supportive housing for nearly 2,000 neighbors across the Twin Cities.

This coming January 2026, we’ll celebrate a long-awaited milestone — the opening of Simpson Community Shelter & Apartments. A dignified, welcoming space that combines shelter, permanent supportive housing, and wrap-around services under one roof.  This vision embodies what’s possible when a community comes together with compassion and determination.

House. Your support creates the foundation for change. We’ve maintained our 24/7 interim shelter while preparing a trauma-informed, permanent space that offers consistency and belonging for every guest.

Support. Across four metro counties - Hennepin, Ramsey, Anoka, and Carver; more than 700 households now have stable homes and the relationships and resources to sustain them. Our family, youth, and individual support specialists, shelter staff, and volunteers meet people where they are and walk with them as they rebuild stability through compassionate accountability.

Empower. More than 400 children and youth participated in mentoring, education, and leadership programs that nurture connection and opportunity — strengthening families today and for the future.

This year has tested our community in ways none of us could have imagined. Together, we’ve faced challenges head-on and kept our focus on what matters most — empowering people to find stability and belonging. Through it all, we’ve stayed true to our mission and values and clear about what comes next.

Your gift today keeps our shelter open, our housing stable, and our momentum strong as we prepare to welcome residents into their new home. Starting November 1, all new or increased gifts (10% or more) are matched dollar for dollar up to $100,000 thanks to the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation and the Frey Foundation.

We invite you to partner with us in our work to house, support, and empower people impacted by homelessness.
