Shuhari Institute

Formed in 2015 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, the Shuhari Institute is a new karate organization based on the developmental stages concept of Shu Ha and Ri.

The Institute develops programs & initiatives including technical guides, videos, seminars, and other events. The Institute welcomes and encourages interaction between styles and organizations as a means to developing and supporting the art of Traditional Karate.

The term Shuhari is comprised three Japanese words: Shu, Ha, and Ri (often written as one) describing an individual’s stages of development in the martial arts. It is an excellent means of understanding how we progress in karate. The concept of Shuhari has recently become a much-discussed topic in the world of martial arts – and for good reason.  We believe it is the foundation for a new movement in martial arts.
