The Arts as Catalyst
We at Screen Porch Productions (SPP), a nonprofit community arts organization, have been operating successfully for 17 years in a geographically large, rural area that includes seven communities all with populations under 900. We are dedicated to bringing the creative arts (literary, visual, and performing) to people through all stages of life. The arts are woven into the fabric of community life here, knit together through strong bonds of personal relationship and connection. This is the key to understanding the rural model—the importance of building from within a community in developing key partners united in a common goal—with the arts as catalyst. Engaging people in the arts is the transformative tool that connects us to our creative potential and to each other. This creates the chain reaction that transforms and connects others--starting in the heart of the individual at any stage of life.
Screen Porch Productions is a project-based, artist-based, community-centered, rural arts organization without ‘brick and mortar’ to siphon off precious resources. We provide sustained opportunities to participate in the arts through our inclusive, inter-generational and high-quality programs and projects. We provide artistic growth and development opportunities for area artists so they can expand their vision for the arts in our community and we cultivate community partnerships to strengthen our ability to better serve our large geographic, 100% rural area.
We envision generations of citizens in our area communities recognizing, expanding and sharing with the next generations the true value of participating in the arts and the impact it has on their personal creative growth, family success and community health and well-being.
