Promoting strong bodies, strong minds, and strong character through bicycle riding.
Stillwater Area Scholastic Cycling Advocates (SASCA) is an organization made up of dedicated volunteers who share a lifetime love of bicycle riding, and who want to share that love with kids. One of our purposes is to support the Stillwater Area Schools Mountain Bike Team, a St. Croix Valley competitive co-ed riding program for students in 7th-12th grades. Kids learn mountain biking skills, develop teamwork and gain confidence, all the while engaging in an activity that will provide them a lifetime of fun and fitness.
Based on strong growth of the high school team and a growing interest and participation in off-road bicycling, SASCA has created SASCA Trails, a subcommittee of our organization, tasked with building and maintaining public mountain bike trails in the St. Croix Valley.
SASCA Trails Our first trail is now open to the public! We have complete 13,777 feet ( 3.1-miles) of single-track mountain bike trail in Valley View Park, located in Oak Park Heights, Minnesota. This trail will be primarily for mountain biking, but will also offer multi-use access for hikers, walkers, and trail runners. Our hope is that this trail will serve as conduits to getting kids out into nature and challenging themselves. More plans are in the works to add additional trails to the St. Croix Valley. The team is aligned with the Stillwater Area High School and is a varsity letter sport. It races in the Minnesota High School Cycling League, the state non-profit organizing arm of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA).
