Riverway Learning Community's Mission

Riverway Learning Community is committed to the foundation of a more hopeful and enlightened future by the development of an environment that nurtures the growth of mind, body, and spirit, both as individuals and as members of the larger community. Riverway will promote respect for the simultaneous independence and interdependence of all things.

As a Minnesota public charter school, Riverway provides free, Montessori education for students in kindergarten-6th grade. The Montessori philosophy honors the child and nurtures the innate human quality of independent, self-motivated, lifelong learning through individualized education in an enriched learning environment that encourages children to unfold their own potential.

Riverway also provides free, public education for Minnesota students in grades 7th-12th. Project-Based Learning is an integral part of our Secondary Program.  Project-Based Learning (PBL) is the use of in-depth and rigorous classroom projects to facilitate student learning. The projects emphasize learning activities that are long-term, interdisciplinary, and student-centered. Students organize their own work and manage their own time. PBL is designed to encourage students to become independent workers, critical thinkers, and life-long learners. Our Secondary Program incorporates: Minnesota State Graduation Standards, Environmental Education, Organic Gardening & Food Production, Community Service Learning, Community as a Classroom, Post Secondary Education Option (PSEO), Lifelong Sports & MN State High School League.
